Ancient Gandhara Schist Head of a Bearded Man

ca. 300 A.D. Ancient Region of Gandhara (Present-day Northwest Pakistan and Northeast Afghanistan)

A finely carved head, showing a mature man wearing a long beard nicely arranged. The long and lean face has the characteristic features of the Greek thinker. Deeply set eyes, straight nose, full lips covered by a flowing mustache above an abundant beard.

A marvelous example of the Graeco-Buddhist style mixing Western and Eastern History into one single piece.
