Greek Hellenistic Gold Chest Plate Ca.400 BC

A very rare funerary pectoral or breastplate formed by a single sheet of gold, decorated with the ten-leafed rosette symbol and original loops still attached. The Greeks believed that at the moment of death the psyche, or spirit of the dead, would leave the body as a little breath. The body was in fact, accompanied by various objects like bronze swords, decorated vessels, jewelry and beautiful marble statues that would ensure the deceased not to be forgotten. This fantastic piece would have been at the time, evidence of both the high social rank and the martial spirit of the deceased. Very Good Condition, on a custom-made stand. Size: H:120mm / W:136mm (without a stand); 28g
